District Facilities Planning Timeline
In April of 2021, voters approved a $5.6 million referendum for repairs, updates, and improvements at Northside Elementary School. Since then, CG Schmidt has been working on completing a wide range of projects - installing ADA-compliant restroom facilities, upgraded LED lighting, a new HVAC system, sprinklers, a PA system, and more. The project is set for completion by the start of the 2022-2023 school year. You can learn more about the Northside Referendum project by clicking HERE.
July 2021, the District Facilities Committee resumed meeting to discuss the next focus of the District facilities modernization plan and research options to address the deteriorating Monroe High School. Over the next several months, the Facilities Committee researched and discussed several solutions and presented two options to the Board of Education in November 2021. A community survey determined "Option 3", to build a new school on a new site, was most supported by our families and stakeholders.
On March 28th, 2022, the Monroe Board of Education unanimously approved and adopted a resolution entitled "Initial Resolution Authorizing General Obligation Bonds in an Amount Not to Exceed $88,000,000" providing for a referendum election on the November 8th, 2022 ballot to seek approval for the construction of a new high school on a new site. The referendum will also provide funding for capital maintenance and mechanical systems improvements at Abraham Lincoln Elementary.
