The professionals at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School believe that all students can learn and that we are all responsible for the growth of all students, regardless of whether we directly teach them or not. This is especially true of students who are performing below grade level expectations. Specific procedures are put in place to review the data of all students at the beginning, middle and end of the year in both English language arts and math. Our team of interventionists, special education teachers, classroom teachers, and pupil services staff meet about every eight weeks to review student progress as a group, complete a root cause analysis for students not making adequate growth, and determine any changes needed.
At Abraham Lincoln Elementary, staff members are committed to understanding diverse cultural backgrounds, values, and traditions, recognizing their impact on students' academic success. To this end, staff undergo training in adaptable teaching methodologies aligned with the diverse cultural backgrounds of their students. Moreover, they engage in introspection to identify and address internal biases and socio-economic identities, ensuring a more inclusive learning environment. Recognizing the pivotal role of students' past experiences and home culture, Abe Lincoln staff uphold the belief that all students possess the capacity to learn, underlining their dedication to cultivating culturally responsive teaching practices.
Through collaborative partnerships with families and the broader community, we strive to create meaningful opportunities for student growth and achievement. We communicate various ways with our families including a utilization of the DOJO app to send announcements and pictures, our Abe school-wide monthly newsletter, and also through weekly classroom newsletters. Whether in the classroom, in special areas, or through extracurricular activities, our goal is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and character traits needed to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
Abraham Lincoln Elementary School has a very active Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) that is a vital support system for our school, fostering collaboration between community members, parents, teachers, and administration to enhance the educational experience for students. We meet once a month in the evening to plan and organize different activities. Our PTO organizes fundraising events to support the school with field trips, resources that teachers need, supplies for family nights, books for our vending machine, and more! The PTO also shows appreciation by celebrating staff during Staff Appreciation Week, which helps to build a connection between parents and staff.
