MHS Theatre has a busy season planned for 2023-2024 with lots of opportunities for students to get involved and for our community to see some outstanding productions! Be sure to watch your email for announcements about auditions or contact Mrs. Jenny Bochar for more information.
Starting in the Fall, students will have an opportunity to be a part of our award-winning Competition One Act cast! This group participates in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech and Dramatic Arts One Act competition and has made it to the State level of competition in the two years we have been participating. This year we will be performing "Appropriate Audience Behavior" by Ian McWethy, a hilarious show with opportunities for improv that turns the attention from the actors on stage to the antics in the audience.
Each Fall, we also produce a full-length play. This year's selection is "An Act of Piracy" by Patrick Derksen. In this swashbuckling adventure, we follow a troupe of mediocre actors on a seafaring voyage where they look to freshen up their act and discover what it means to live the pirate life. Performances will be November 10th-12th.
Last year, we began a new tradition at MHS, the Holiday Extravaganza! A wonderful evening filled with your favorite wintry delights, this show features our Monroe High School Choirs, Monroe Middle School Choirs, Monroe High School Jazz Band, with skits written and performed by our Monroe High School Theatre students and some spectacular solos. You won't want to miss this event filled with holiday fun for the whole family! Performances December 15th and 16th.
Our Musical this year takes a delightfully dark turn with "The Addams Family"! In The Addams Family, America's darkest family comes to life in this original musical about love, family, honesty, and growing up. Performances will be February 23rd-25th.
This year, MHS will celebrate the arts with its Fine Arts Festival. In Fine Arts Festival years, MHS Theatre offers our junior and senior students the opportunity to direct a One Act play. This year, we will be offering an evening of One Acts with two student directors. Ashton Klemm will be directing "Good Cop, Bad Cop" by Ian McWethy and Jason Pizzarello and Trevor Klarer will be directing "Complaint Department and Lemonade" by Kamron Kiltgaard. They will have a school performance on Thursday, April 25th, with public performances on the evening of April 25th (in association with the Empty Bowl Dinner - dinner and show!) and Friday, April 26th.
We are so excited about this year and hope you will be able to join us!
