MHS Theatre has another great season planned for 2024-2025 with lots of opportunities for students to get involved and for our community to see some outstanding productions!
Starting in the Fall, students will have an opportunity to be a part of our award-winning Competition One Act cast! This group participates in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech and Dramatic Arts One Act competition and has made it to the State level of competition in the three years we have been participating. This year we will be performing "Bad Auditions By Bad Actors" by Ian McWethy, which takes audiences inside the audition room to see the cast of characters that didn't make the cut for a community theatre production of "Romeo and Juliet".
Each Fall, we also produce a full-length play. This year's selection is "Airness - High School Edition" by Chelsea Marcantel. Get ready to ride the lightning with this loving salute to the world of air guitar competitions. Featuring over-the-top rockstar performances, this show celebrates finding family in the most unusual places. Performances will be November 8th-10th.
This year, MHS Theatre will host their 3rd annual Holiday Extravaganza! This show played to sold-out crowds last year and is quickly becoming a community tradition. A wonderful evening filled with your favorite wintry delights, this show features our Monroe High School Choirs, Monroe Middle School Choirs, Monroe High School Jazz Band, with skits written and performed by our Monroe High School Theatre students and some spectacular solos. You won't want to miss this event filled with holiday fun for the whole family! Performances December 13th and 14th. Proceeds from the Holiday Extravaganza help support MHS Theatre productions and fund equipment purchases for the PAC. A portion will also be donated to the Monroe School Arts Booster Club (established in 2024 through the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin) which will help fund arts activities and field trips for students in all our schools.
Our Musical this year will be "Once Upon a Mattress", a hilarious twist on the story of "The Princess and the Pea". Famed comedian Carol Burnett made a splash in the original cast and a revival starring Sutton Foster is making its way to Broadway this year. Performances will be February 28th-March 2nd.
This year, we are taking on a daring new adventure with The 24-Hour Plays! Students will write, direct, produce, and perform a series of One-Act plays in just 24 hours. We are so excited to provide this opportunity for students to jump out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves. Look for more information on the School District of Monroe's Facebook page in the Spring. The show will be in April 2025, date TBD.
In 2025, we will be bringing our Summer School musical to the stage for our 8th year! Last year, 31 students in grades 4-6 joined us for "Finding Nemo Kids" and performed for families on June 28th, 2024 after just 15 days of rehearsal. We are buzzing with excitement to announce that our 2025 show will be "Winnie the Pooh Kids"! More information will be available in the 2025 Summer School course book about this super fun opportunity.
We are so excited about this year and hope you will be able to join us!
