Organization details: Since 1916, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is the preeminent organization of and national voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals, and aspiring school leaders from across the United States and more than 45 countries around the world. The mission of NASSP is to promote excellence in middle level and high school leadership. NASSP also promotes the intellectual growth, academic achievement, character and leadership development, and physical well-being of youth. NASSP is proud to have founded and to administer the National Honor SocietyTM (NHS), the National Junior Honor SocietyTM (NJHS), National Elementary Honor SocietyTM (NEHS), and the National Association of Student CouncilsTM (NASC).
How to become involved/join: Any sophomores or juniors with a 3.5 GPA or higher will receive an invitation in the spring to join NHS. Applicants must fill out an application chronicling his or her achievements in the areas of leadership, scholarship and service. Furthermore, applicants must write an essay describing why he or she would be an asset to the Monroe Chapter of NHS. A faculty council reviews all applicants and those who have been accepted into NHS receive notification by the end of the school year. All new NHS members are inducted into the society in a formal ceremony in October.
Past Accomplishments: NHS volunteers in the school and Monroe community. Some notable activities we sponsor are: packing boxes for the Women's Club Christmas stocking, reading to elementary children in the School District of Monroe on Dr. Seuss' birthday and participating in an annual Rake and Run, where members rake people's leaves and run before being recognized. Last year, the society's 50 members contributed over 1,000 hours of volunteer work in the Monroe community.
