Curriculum and Instruction
Each of the three elementary schools use the following curriculums that align with Common Core State Standards. All teachers use a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom to address the needs of our student population.
- Everyday Math
- Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)
- Mystery Science
Encore Offerings (Specials) at the elementary level are listed below.
- Art
- Music
- Phy. Ed
- SELF (provided by school counselor)
- Regular library check outs (LMC)
Specials Update
- For the 23-24 school year all students will receive 60 minutes of phy.ed, music and art. Students will also have 30 minutes of SELF (instruction with the school counselor), and an opportunity to check out books in the library.
- Unfortunately due to the inability to find a qualified teacher the Elementary Spanish Program previously offered in partnership with Colony Brands will not be a part of our specials block this year. We are very grateful for the support of Colony Brands and the 4 years we were able to offer this program to elementary students.
- Additionally due to the inability to find a qualified music teacher for Abraham Lincoln elementary school our elementary district librarian, Heather Newton, will be filling this role. Heather has a music background and will be able to ensure equitable music programming for students at Abraham Lincoln. Due to this staffing adjustment Makerspace rotations will not be a part of the elementary library schedule for the upcoming year. Mrs. Keene and classroom teachers will still offer opportunities for students to check out books, hear stories and explore materials in the library.
All elementary schools have a Library Media Center (LMC) and 1:1 Chromebooks for students in grades K-5th.

Interventions/Support
The School District of Monroe follows a Response to Intervention (RtI) or Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework in both academic achievement and social-emotional learning that focuses on early intervention, a tiered system of interventions, and consistent monitoring of data to measure the effectiveness of our curriculum and instruction. Parkside Elementary feels that social-emotional learning is just as important as academic achievement and utilizes a positive behavioral approach, known as PBIS, that includes teaching our school expectations, building community, and acknowledging positive choices. All of our school rules revolve around the three expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.
